In case you haven't heard already, Cumbria County Council is running a consultation on priorities and budget options. It runs until 31 January, and will help the council make informed decisions on what services most need protecting. Over the coming years, the council will see a substantial reduction in money it receives from the government. In February it needs to make decisions about:-
  • What services to protect
  • What to reduce
  • What to keep
  • What can be better delivered by private companies, charities and voluntary groups
It is likely that many of the grants it currently gets from Central government for projects involving work with young people, social care, community safety and HIV/AIDS work could be cut or stopped. The council needs YOUR views on what services it should give priority to, if central government money is lost and it is forced to fund a smaller range of services from it's own funds.

You can find more details of the consultation at:

There's on online questionnaire to fill in you can fill in, or you can submit comments by email. You can also go along to community events in Carlisle, Barrow or Egremont. (See website for details)
